[MMD Tut] How to Rename Anything in PMXe and MMD

Description

Updated image!!

How to get rid of "Null_##" things; how to fix weird Japanese or English names; etc. Images are from EN PMXe versions 2.2.2 (translated by EosCustom3D, www.deviantart.com/vadim07/art…) and v2.54f (translated by Inochi-PM, www.deviantart.com/inochi-pm/a…), but this guide should apply to any version of PMX Editor or MikuMikuDance. (Legacy v1.1 option: www.deviantart.com/eoscustom3d…) My guide only covers the JP to EN path, but you can also use this to, say, fix the "Japanese" (but actually English) names that model you exported from somewhere else (like XPS or Blender) has.

This tutorial makes use of the Batch Rename/Name Repair function that is built into all current PMX Editors. No need to download any pesky plugins! The dictionary file is already included too!

One big reason why I don't use different bases is because I used to manually rename bones, and I HATED it. But Trackdancer taught me this automatic way, and I thought I'd share it with you all! It's seriously useful. Now I can use all my JP Name Only models!

BE AWARE THAT THIS FIX IS ONLY AS COMPREHENSIVE AS YOU MAKE IT!!! There is a "complete" list available online at fav.me/d6i8bs0 , but I found that list immensely redundant. I made my own, and included steps to do so here.

Demonstration model is my self-made Camus v3. He is not currently available for public download.

Do I need to rename them manually? The model has "bone001, bone002" etc in JP column and "bone632, bone635" in EN column.
